BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) _ Milica Vukadinovic hit a running one-hander with 16 seconds left to break a 66-66 tie in No. 23 California’s 70-66 victory over Arizona State on Friday night.
California (13-4 overall, 5-3 in the Pacific 10 Conference) led by as many as 12 points in the second half before Arizona State (12-5, 5-3) went on a 16-1 run to take a 59-56 lead with 4:44 left.
Arizona State extended its advantage to 66-62 on Ryneldi Becenti’s 3- pointer with 2:07 remaining. Sophie von Saldern then stole the ball for Cal and went the length of the court for a layup and Vukadinovic tied it on a 10- footer with 48 seconds left.
On the Sun Devils’ next possession, Monique Ambers was called for an offensive foul with 32 seconds left, setting up Vukadinovic’s game-winner.
Arizona State missed its final shot, and Cal’s Ingrid Dixson was fouled on the rebound with no time left. She made two free throws for the final margin.
Vukadinovic led California with 23 points, Dixson added 12 points and Kim Robinson had 11. Ambers led Arizona State with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Stacey Johnson had 15 points and Lisa Salsman 12.
