Lakers’ Stewart wins national award

La Lumiere School big man Isaiah Stewart (Washington) was named the 2019 Naismith High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Friday after a regular season where he helped lead the No. 1 Lakers to a 29-0 mark with 18.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest. The undefeated and top-seeded Lakers will open the GEICO High School Nationals on April 4 against No. 8 NSU University School in New York at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.

La Lu’s Brooks Jr. picks UK

La Lumiere wing and 247 Sports’ No. 23 Class of 2019 prospect Keion Brooks Jr. committed to the University of Kentucky on Friday night from his hometown of Fort Wayne. Brooks began his prep carerer at North Side High School, where he led the Legends to the Class 4A state final as a sophomore. Kentucky went from the No. 10 recruiting class to the No. 2-ranked class with Brooks’ commitment in the 247 Sports database.

LP Soccer Club Spring sign-ups

The La Porte Soccer Club still has a few openings on the U10, U12 and U14 travel teams. LP Soccer Club is for boys and girls age U4 through U14.
