Medical Center bar now serving pub fare food
After slinging drinks in the space since Aug. 17, the Babcock Social Pub near the South Texas Medical Center has started serving food.
Located at 5891 Babcock Road, the pub debuted the menu last week and there will be a grand-opening bash Friday. The property is co-owned by Justin Vitek and Mike McMillen, who also own On the Rocks Pub downtown and Hills & Dales Ice House near the University of Texas at San Antonio campus on the North Side.
Babcock Social is their first venture into the food business.
“Developing the menu has been an interesting process,” Vitek said. “I knew that we wanted to do everything as fresh as possible, and make sure that as much attention was being put into the food as the rest of the bar experience.”
The bulk of the menu sits comfortably in the realm of pub grub fare, with a few twists. Vitek said the chicken wings (which come in honey barbecue, classic Buffalo, lemon pepper and Cajun flavors) are given a 24-hour marinade bath, and the cheese sticks are hand-cut from a mozzarella log.
Classic beef, chicken and smoked brisket sourced locally from Nelson’s BBQ makes an appearance in slider, nacho and quesadilla form.
Babcock Social regularly features DJs and live entertainment and offers the NFL Sunday Ticket throughout the football season on four projector units and 10 TVs scattered throughout the property. There is also an extensive outdoor patio area that Vitek said will eventually be fully covered to provide a comfortable year-round space.
