Man accused of fatally shooting boy, 6, at home in Georgia
HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in Georgia say a man shot and killed a 6-year-old child.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen tells news outlets that Eugene Ryder Stamey died of a gunshot wound Monday night at his home in Hephzibah. The county sheriff’s office says 32-year-old Benjamin Wesley Goodson was taken into custody and charged with murder, child cruelty and other offenses.
Goodson is accused of shooting Eugene in the chest with a shotgun. The arrest warrant says the gun didn’t fire when Goodson first pointed it at the boy, so he had to pull the hammer back and aim again before shooting.
Investigators say Goodson is the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
