Thurl Bailey, Jazz, picking up the slack left when Karl Malone was ejected three minutes into the game, scored a career-high 41 points - including 16 of Utah’s final 19 - and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Jazz to a 116-115 victory at Denver. Bailey was 17-for-27 from the field. TRAIL BLAZER
Clyde Drexler of Portland, who averaged 28.7 points in three Trail Blazers victories last week, was honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season. Drexler, fifth in the league with a 26.9 average, also averaged 6.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and three steals. PASSING FANCY
John Stockton of the Jazz had 20 assists Monday against Denver, the third time this season he’s had at least that many in a game. Earlier this season, the Utah guard had successive 21-assist efforts against the Los Angeles Clippers. Stockton leads the league with an average of 12.5 assists per game and has averaged over 15 feeds per game in his last 21 contests.

Washington center Moses Malone outscored San Antonio 20-15 from the free throw line Monday in the Bullets’ 112-106 victory. Malone made 20-of-22 free throws - the Spurs were just 15-for-27.
