92 Dead in Central Asian Flood
MOSCOW (AP) _ The death toll from a week of flooding in a mountainous region in Central Asia has risen to 92, a news agency reported Monday.
The floods happened after heavy runoff from melting glaciers swelled rivers and broke a dam last week on the Kuban-Kel lake, ITAR-Tass said. The lake forms the border between the former Soviet republics of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The dam break raised the water level below the dam by as much as 12 feet, inundating nearby homes.
