Wildcat Strike Hits Brit Ford
LONDON (AP) _ Ford Motor Co. halted an automobile assembly line for several hours Friday after workers staged a wildcat strike to protest a pay offer.
About 60 workers initially walked off the job Friday afternoon at the Dagenham factory in Essex, just east of London, and they soon were joined by several dozen more at the plant where Ford makes Fiesta cars.
Although the strikers were a tiny minority of the 9,000 people working in the Dagenham plant, the assembly line had to be shut, Ford spokeswoman Holly Keays said. Ford could not immediately say how much production was lost.
A day earlier, Ford had offered members of the Transport and General Workers Union a two-year contract that would have increased pay by 2.75 percent in each year.
