Florida State blanks NC State 11-0; Wolfpack still advance to semifinals
NC State (42-16) was going to be advancing to the semifinal round on Saturday no matter what, and the Wolfpack saw a 139-game streak without being shut out fall as they lost 11-0 in seven innings to Florida State (36-21).
The Wolfpack had just one hit, and starting pitcher Alec Barger lasted just 2.1 innings. Still, the Wolfpack used just four pitchers, keeping their bullpen fresh.
NC State will now face the No. 2 seed Georgia Tech in the semifinals on Saturday in the second of the two semifinal games. The winner of that semifinal will place the winner of Boston College and North Carolina the game before.
Florida State will now wait to find out its NCAA Tournament fate, but the win over NC State - meaningless or not - can’t hurt.
