Quick thinking neighbor limits fire damage to Florence County home
FLORENCE, S.C. -- A quick thinking, and acting, neighbor Tuesday afternoon prevented more than cosmetic damage and minor structural damage to an eastern Florence County residence.
Windy Hill firefighters responded to 6715 Bethel Road at 12:45 p.m. to a report of a structure fire with smoke and flames showing.
When they arrived they found that a neighbor, using the resident’s garden hose, had “knocked it down” and prevented the fire, which started on the home’s porch, from extending into the home, said Windy Hill Fire Chief John DeLung.
Windy Hill firefighters worked to make sure that the fire hadn’t spread and ventilated the home’s attic which was full of smoke.
Windy Hill responded eight firefighters, an engine, a tanker and command staff and was supported by medics with Florence County EMS.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
DeLung said he has called in the Florence County Sheriff’s Office to investigate.
