BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) _ Colombian police arrested 25 people Wednesday in connection with a drug trafficking ring that sent about 45 pounds of heroin to the United States every month, officials said.
Colombian counter-drug agents, with help from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, issued arrest warrants for 30 people, according to Leo Arreguin, chief of the Bogota office of the DEA.
``For about four or five of them, we’re already looking at extraditing them to the United States,″ he said.
Police had arrested 25 of the 30 by Wednesday afternoon, according to a police department press release.
Arreguin said the group, based in Cali, Colombia’s third-largest city, was sending the heroin to the United States every month.
Colombia provides roughly 70 percent of the heroin used in the United States.
