More firefighters called to fight new Idaho wildfire

July 24, 2018

RIGGINS, Idaho (AP) — About 300 firefighters are fighting a wildfire near the small community of Pollock in west-central Idaho.

The wildfire on Tuesday grew to 3 square miles (8 square kilometers) burning in timber and grass in rugged terrain about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Riggins on the west side of U.S. Route 95.

Fire spokeswoman Jeannette Dreadfulwater says there are no evacuations.

She says U.S. Route 95 remains open, but smoke could limit visibility for motorists. Motorists are asked not to stop along the road in the area.

The cause of the fire that started at about noon on Monday is unknown. Officials say the fire has the potential to spread.
