IAAF Grand Prix Meets Part of Tour
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ IAAF Grand Prix meets at Portland, Ore., and Palo Alto, Calif., will highlight USA Track & Field’s four-meet outdoor Golden Spike Tour this year.
The tour begins May 12 with the Princeton Invitational at Princeton, N.J. followed by the Adidas Oregon Track Classic June 3, a Grand Prix II meet at Portland; the U.S. Open June 9, a Grand Prix I meet at Palo Alto; and the USA Outdoor Championships June 21-24 at Eugene, Ore.
As a prelude to the Golden Spike tour, USATF’s elite outdoor season begins April 28 with a USA vs. The World competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, matching U.S. teams against relay teams from around the world.
In addition to organizing the Golden Spike Tour, USATF is joining with the nation’s top relay meets in an effort to further elite athlete development. Meets receiving Golden Spike Tour satellite designation are the Fresno Relays April 7; Kansas Relays April 18-21; Mt. SAC Relays April 20-22; Drake Relays April 27-28; and Modesto Relays May 12.
The United States also will be the site of a third IAAF Grand Prix meet with the Prefontaine Classic May 27 at Eugene.
