Jimmy Page, the founder and lead guitarist of renowned British rock band Led Zeppelin, turns 75 today. Page was born Jan. 9, 1944, in Heston, Middlesex, England.

One of the best-selling acts of all-time, an estimated 300 million Led Zeppelin record units have been bought by its legion of fans.
What’s behind band name?
Page mentioned his desire to form a supergroup to Keith Moon and John Entwistle, members of another rock band, The Who. Moon allegedly said the band would go over like a lead balloon. Entwistle supposedly added, “a lead zeppelin!”
Different name for 1st show
Led Zeppelin was billed as The New Yardbirds when Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham took the stage together for the first time on Sept. 7, 1968.
Local tribute approaches
The Led Zeppelin tribute band Kashmir will play a show at The Majestic Theatre in downtown Kankakee at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.
