Police blotter: Man flees on foot, assaults deputies
HUNTINGTON — The following information was provided by police reports filed in the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office:
FLEEING: One person was arrested around 2:28 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Washington Boulevard, near Meadows Elementary, after responding officers attempted to execute a mental hygiene warrant.
Rudy La’Vance Watson, 36, is charged with fleeing and assault on an officer.
According to the report, police observed the suspect in his back yard in the 1500 block of Upland Place and upon explaining why the officers were there, the suspect fled into his residence and out the garage door, through neighboring houses and down the hill toward Meadows Elementary, losing his shoes in the process, all while the school was letting out for the day. The suspect eventually got caught in a briar patch.
The suspect allegedly did not initially comply with police demands to get on the ground and place his hands behind his back, and assumed an “aggressive bladed stance.” At this point police decided to deploy a Taser at the suspect, as police did not believe the suspect was going to comply with orders and children were present.
The suspect was taken to Western Regional Jail on a $6,000 bond and the mental hygiene warrant was not executed at this time.
