Cops: Alleged shoplifter pointed gun on Walmart security
NEWINGTON - Two people were arrested on robbery charges after one allegedly pulled out a gun while being confronted about a shoplifting incident Tuesday, police said.
An asset protection employee observed Gregory Ortiz, 44, of Tolland, and Katlyn Bilodeau, 32, of Willimantic, allegedly shoplifting at the Walmart on the Berlin Turnpike at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
When the pair was confronted about the incident outside the store, police said Ortiz pulled out a gun and pointed it at the employee before the two fled in a silver sedan.
A Newington detective spotted the vehicle a short while later on the turnpike in Wethersfield and watched it pull into a motel, reports said.
Newington and Wethersfield police made contact with the pair and took them into custody without incident, police said.
Both were charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of sixth-degree shoplifting. Ortiz was also charged with second-degree threatening.
They were held on $500,000 bond until their arraignment in New Britain Superior Court.
