Redskins reportedly not interested in Colin Kaepernick

November 19, 2018

The Redskins will sign a new quarterback after Alex Smith broke his leg in Sunday’s 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans. But it likely won’t be the guy who replaced him in San Francisco.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Redskins are not interested in signing Colin Kaepernick, who has been out of the league since the end of the 2016season.

Per Florio:

Another source tells PFT that team president Bruce Allen previously has made clear within the organization his position that Kaepernick wont be signed by Washington, ever. Allen is a political conservative, which would make Kaepernick and his habit of protesting during the national anthem something that Allen wouldnt be inclined to embrace, ever.

The Redskins are bringing in Mark Sanchez, Kellen Clemens, E.J. Manuel and T.J. Yates for a workout Monday.

Kaepernick does have some ties to the Redskins. Washington’s defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was San Francisco’s head coach in 2015. Quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell was also on the 49ers’ staff in 2016. Kaepernick also played with Vernon Davis and Colt McCoy in San Francisco.

Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the league’s owners, alleging they colluded to keep him out of football for his protesting during the national anthem.
