Jaguars Give Kicking Job to Marler
JACKSONVILLE. Fla. (AP) _ Seth Marler won the Jacksonville Jaguars’ placekicking job for the time being as the team cut 10 players, including kickers Danny Boyd and James Tuthill.
Marler, a rookie from Tulane, solidified his spot on the team after converting two field goals against Tampa Bay on Saturday, including a 55-yard field goal.
The Jaguars placed defensive end Javor Mills and linebacker Joe Tuipala on injured reserve. Mills suffered a knee injury in the team’s first preseason game in Minnesota while Tuipala hurt his shoulder against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
In addition to Boyd and Tuthill, the Jaguars also released defensive tackles Reggie McGrew and Clenton Ballard, linebacker Bobby Brooks, cornerback Chris L. Brown, wide receiver Kerry Hood and offensive tackles Jay Humphrey, Dave Kadela and Barry Hall.
McGrew was a former No. 1 draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 1999 and spent the last four seasons with the 49ers and Atlanta Falcons.
