Fox Chapel Area students present ‘The Crucible’

November 23, 2018

Fox Chapel Area High School students will perform their fall play, “The Crucible,” free for district senior citizens age 60 and older on Nov. 7.

The show, which tackles the subject of McCarthyism, will begin at 3:45 p.m. and refreshments will be served prior to the performance at 3 p.m. in the auditorium lobby.

Reservations are requested by calling 412-967-2410.

Written by Arthur Miller, the drama portrays the Salem witch trials of 1692 Massachusetts. It is a veiled script for the McCarthyism of the 1950s when people, including Miller, were accused by the U.S. government of being communist. It premiered on Broadway in 1953 and won the Tony Award for Best Play.

Local director and producer Kristiann Josephs will run the show, along with teacher Joseph Gass as technical coordinator and teacher Mary Beth Dixon as costume/props coordinator.

The public can view performances during a three-day run from Nov. 8-10 in the high school auditorium, 611 Field Club Road, O’Hara. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $8 and will be sold at the door.
