Samoa bounces back by beating Canada 23-13

November 14, 2014

VANNES, France (AP) — Samoa put its off-field concerns to one side to bounce back from defeat against Italy and beat Canada 23-13 on Friday.

Replacements Anthony Perenise and Winston Stanley scored second-half tries for Samoa, with Michael Stanley converting both and adding three penalties.

Conor Trainor, who was yellow-carded in the 27th minute, turned over for Canada. James Pritchard converted, while Gordon McRorie weighed in with two penalties.

Samoa players had threatened to boycott next week’s test against England unless their concerns about the management of the Samoan Rugby Union were addressed.

The strike was averted thanks to action by the International Rugby Board and the International Rugby Players’ Association but the Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi heavily criticized the players.
