Cards’ Dunston Suspended for Three
NEW YORK (AP) _ Shawon Dunston of the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday was suspended for three games for charging the mound in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has appealed the action by National League president Leonard S. Coleman.
Because of the appeal of the suspension, which was to begin Wednesday, Dunston can play pending a hearing.
The suspension stemmed from Dunston charging the mound Sunday after being hit in the back by a fastball from Dodgers rookie Jamie Arnold following a home run by Mark McGwire in the ninth inning.
Dunston was the third Cardinal to be hit by a pitch in the game and the second in that inning.
