SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) _ Arthur Agee, chronicled in the documentary ``Hoop Dreams,″ signed a contract with the USBL’s Florida Sharks on Thursday.
Agee, Florida’s first pick in last week’s draft, averaged 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for Arkansas State last season.
```Hoop Dreams’ is now officially a reality,″ Sharks president Andy Badolato said. ``As the first player on our roster, Andy will help the franchise create an identity in Sarasota and Bradenton. As a basketball player and movie star, Arthur is the ideal personality to represent our team.″
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) _ NBC sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, a former NFL receiver who set 14 school records at the University of Oregon from 1968-72 as Bobby Moore, is this year’s recipient of the school’s Pioneer Award.
``Ahmad Rashad has gone beyond the classic American sports success story,″ university president Dave Frohnmayer said Thursday.
Rashad, 45, will accept the award during a May 6 dinner in Portland.
NEW YORK (AP) _ Bob Cousy and Jack Ramsay will coach a senior dream team that includes former New York Knicks players Earl Monroe and Cazzie Russell in the inaugural International Senior Games.
The competition for athletes 50 and over will be held in Bermuda on April 13-27, 1995. Wally Hallas, a former Columbia basketball coach, is the commissioner of the event.
``I’m looking forward to the games, not only for the competition, but to also enjoy the cultural aspects of the island,″ Monroe said.
