Richmond 5, Toledo 4

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ Mike Kelly hit a solo home run in the eighth inning Tuesday night and the Richmond Braves beat the Toledo Mud Hens 5-4 in the International League.

Jose Oliva hit his 20th homer for the Braves, giving him eight RBIs in the three-game series. Oliva and Kelly both played briefly for Atlanta earlier this season.

A crowd of 9,402, the third-largest of the season, filled Ned Skeldon Stadium. The Famous Chicken also was on hand for the game, which was shown by TBS. The network, which televises Atlanta games, showed the Richmond game while major leaguers are on strike.

Richmond won despite being outhit 13-4. But the Mud Hens left 13 runners on base while the Braves stranded two.

Richmond took a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning on a three-run double by Luis Lopez.

But Toledo, the Detroit Tigers’ top affiliate, got consecutive doubles in the bottom half of the inning from Shannon Penn and Steve Springer to pull to 4-3. Bob Higginson’s RBI single tied the game.

Mike Christopher (3-6) gave up his only hit, Kelly’s 12th home run of the season with two outs.

Terry Clark (4-3) picked up the win in relief, striking out five batters in 2 1-3 innings. Brad Klontz got his fifth save.

Toledo opened the game with a pair of runs in the first inning. Rudy Pemberton had a sacrifice fly and Riccardo Ingram had an RBI single.

Springer was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Higginson was 3-for-4.
