Bastille Day French flag raising at Greenwich Town Hall
The distinctive tricolour French flag was raised during the annual Bastille Day ceremony put on by the Alliance Francaise in front of Greenwich Town Hall on a wind-less Saturday morning.
Roughly thirty-five people attended the event that is known in France as The National Celebration and commerates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1790, and the unity of the French people.
Greenwich resident Serge Gabriel led the singing of La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem, as well as the American National Anthem.
Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei attended the event and read a proclaimation stating Saturday, July 14th as “Bastille Day in Greenwich,” just before long-time Greenwich resident Claude Kuzma raised the French flag to shouts of “Vive la France,” from numerous people in the crowd.
