Brothers face more charges in Prophetstown fire

August 20, 2013

STERLING, Ill. (AP) — More charges have been filed again two half-brothers accused of setting a fire in July that destroyed a block of downtown Prophetstown in northern Illinois.

The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports Tuesday (http://bit.ly/13PFd1T) that the 16-year-old and 12-year-old boys now face more than a dozen felony charges including counts of arson and criminal damage to property. The boys are both living under supervision in Prophetstown. They are charged as juveniles.

Prosecutors say they filed the new charges because they’ve received additional reports from the state fire marshal.

Authorities say the fire was set in a recycling bin behind a restaurant in the Whiteside County city of 2,000 residents. Many of the buildings were 150 years old.
