January 4, 2001

NEW YORK (AP) _ Mike Sweatman, the New York Jets’ special teams coach for the past four seasons, was fired Thursday.

Sweatman was a college assistant at Kansas, Tulsa and Tennessee before the Minnesota Vikings hired him in 1984. One season later, he joined the New York Giants as assistant special teams coach and defensive assistant.

When New England hired Bill Parcells as coach, Sweatman moved to the Patriots as special teams coach for the 1993 season. He followed Parcells to the Jets for the 1997 season.
