No. 4: Medicaid expansion approved
After seven years of legislative refusal to expand Medicaid in Nebraska, voters in November extended coverage to an estimated 90,000 adult Nebraskans who are working at low-wage jobs. That decision will bring a projected $1.3 billion in federal funding flowing into the state during the first three years of the new program. Legislative implementation of the new program may touch off battles over state budget allotments and funding levels in 2019 along with potential efforts to attach conditions on access to continuing coverage.
