Matthews Under Par To Conclude Tourney
Brandon Matthews couldn’t keep up his torrid scoring pace from Friday and Saturday, but he did finish his weekend with one final round under par. The Dupont native and Pittston Area product shot 1-under 70 in the final round of the Web.com Tour’s KC Golf open, finishing at 10 under overall and tied for 27th place. Matthews could have passed a fair amount of competitors, but a crucial double bogey on the par-4 No. 9 doused any momentum that might have carried to the back half. He had four birdies overall. At 22 under, Sepp Straka won the tournament by a stroke over Kyle Jones. The tour’s next event is this weekend at the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae. Matthews hits 72nd in the tour money rankings.
