Fasting in Ramadan

By Mohammad SafdarMay 21, 2019

Fasting is not a new phenomenon for people today. Historically, elements of fasting remained part of all major religions in one form or the other revealed by God Almighty. All the Holy Books, like the Torah, Bible and Qur’an contain different scriptures pertaining to fasting for their followers. The most famous fast day of Judaism, with its origins in Leviticus 2, is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Isaiah 58 asserts that the genuine fast is self-evaluation. In Qur’an God Almighty reveals to the believers: “O those who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous. (Qur’an Chapter 2:183)
