Atascocita girls stay unbeaten in soccer battles after blanking Pasadena 4-0
The Atascocita High School girls soccer team closed within one match of finishing the first tour of District 22-6A play unbeaten, following a 4-0 blanking of Pasadena at Veterans Memorial Stadium Monday night.
Pasadena couldn’t generate anything offensively against an Atascocita team that attacked the ball like their season was on the line.
But far from it. The Lady Eagles improved their district ledger to 4-0-3 with the victory.
For Atascocita goalkeepers Ainsly Cunningham, who patrolled in front of the net for the first half and for Madison Melvin, the second half goalie, it was a mostly uneventful night.
Cunningham’s job got easier as the opening 40 minutes sailed along. That’s because Atascocita was busy scoring three first-half goals.
Maria Lecesne found the back of Pasadena’s net for two of the three goals and Nia Rampersad, who hails from Trinidad, accounted for the other point.
The lone Atascocita second-half goal was punched in by Halli Roe, who lofted a perfect ball over Pasadena goalie Kiara Ayala from the left side and into the right corner of the net with 18:35 remaining.
Ayala, playing her first match after being on the injured list, was replaced in the net by Jeimy Hernandez, who kept the damage at four goals.
Pasadena will finish the first tour of the district when it opposes rival Sam Rayburn at the stadium Friday night. The start time is 7:30.
