HONG KONG (AP) _ Unemployment rose to 4.7 percent for the three months ending July 31, the government said Monday in a report that was in line with forecasts by private economists.

Hong Kong had a jobless rate of 4.6 percent from April to June, but the rate rose as the global economy worsened, Financial Secretary Antony Leung said.

Hong Kong's economic growth has slowed markedly since last year, and many ordinary people complain they never got to share in the benefits as the territory bounced back from the Asian crisis.
