Apartment complex to undergo ‘selective demolition’
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont development company says it has hired a construction manager for “selective demolition” of an apartment complex under renovation in St. Johnsbury.
Kathy Beyer, vice president of development for Housing Vermont, tells The Caledonian-Record the demolition will involve cutting apart small portions of plaster to “understand the framing” of the building.
She says the work will be done in vacant units or the hallway, so residents won’t be disturbed.
Beyer says Housing Vermont will file its first major application for financing in January 2019. The organization plans to include affordable housing options and commercial space on the building’s first floor.
Town officials have previously expressed hope that the renovation will help spur a larger revitalization of the downtown area.
