NEW YORK (AP) _ Tamer El Sawy of Egypt successfully defended his title in the Bronx Classic on Sunday, beating doubles partner Pablo Campana of Ecuador 6-1, 6-4.

``I jumped off to an early lead, breaking him right off the bat, and then stayed cool and patient the rest of the way,″ said El Sawy, who was not seeded in the $75,000 tournament at Crotona Park.

``Friendship didn’t enter into this at all. I wanted to stay focused not only for this match, but also for the U.S. Open qualifying.″

In the women’s final, fifth-seeded Virginia Ruano-Pascual of Spain beat Amelie Mauresmo of France 6-4, 6-3.
