Matthews Improves In Round 2, But Misses Cut

August 11, 2018

Brandon Matthews flipped his 2 over to a 2 under Friday, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut at the Ellie Mae Classic.

The Pittston Area graduate fired a 2-under-par 68 in the second round of the Web.com Tour event, which brought him to a two-day score of 140 that missed the cut by several strokes at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, California.

Matthews made three birdies on the front-nine Friday, making the turn at 3-under 32. But the 24-year-old notched three bogeys and two birdies on the back-nine to give him a 68.

This is Matthews’ second missed cut in three weeks, as, last weekend, he turned in a 27th-place finish at the KC Golf Classic.

The Web.com Tour resumes next weekend at the Portland Open in Oregon.
