PARIS (AP) — Three American women have reached the third round of the French Open today. Venus Williams beat Kurumi Nara of Japan, 6-3, 6-1. Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated Petra Kvitova (kuh-VIHT'-oh-vuh), 7-6, 7-6, in Kvitova's first tournament since she was injured in a December knife attack at her home in the Czech Republic. And 18-year-old CiCi Bellis upset Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 6-3, 7-6.

PARIS (AP) — One of the two American men left in the French Open has advanced to the third round. Steve Johnson, seeded No. 25, beat Borna Coric 6-2, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6. The other American, No. 21 John Isner (IHZ'-nur), faces Paolo Lorenzi tomorrow.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins take a 1-0 lead over the Nashville Predators into Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals tonight. The Penguins edged the Predators 5-3 in Game 1 in what Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan called a "bizarre" night. The Penguins won despite going 37 minutes without putting a shot on goal. The Predators haven't dropped consecutive games in the postseason.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) is one big fly from becoming the ninth member of the 600-homer club. The 37-year-old slugger hit No. 599 off 44-year-old Atlanta starter Bartolo Colon (bar-TOH'-loh koh-LOHN') last night. Pujols has homered in consecutive games for the first time this season. Tonight he faces Braves left-hander Jaime Garcia as the Angels host the Braves.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Bears backup quarterback Mark Sanchez will likely miss the rest of Chicago's offseason program after suffering what the team says is a minor injury. He is expected to be ready for training camp. The Bears signed Sanchez to a one-year deal in March. He spent last season backing up Dallas' Dak Prescott.
