Kenyans Dominate Men’s Races
LIDINGO, Sweden (AP) _ Barnabas Kosgei beat two-time defending champion Isaac Chembobo by nearly two minutes Sunday to win the men’s 30-kilometer race in the Lidingoloppet, the world’s biggest cross country festival.
Kosgei, running the grueling 18.6-mile event for the first time, was timed in 1 hour, 36 minutes, 1 second. Chembobo clocked 1:37:59.
Geoffrey Tanui completed the medals sweep for Kenya, finishing third at 1:38:01.
Finland’s Annemarie Sandell won the women’s 15K race for the fifth time at 54:35, nearly a minute ahead of Gunhild Halle of Norway.
More than 23,000 runners competed.
