Elementary school teacher facing child pornography charge
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island elementary school teacher and high school softball coach has been charged with possession of child pornography.
Rhode Island State Police say 69-year-old Richard Conti, of Warwick, was arraigned on the felony charge Tuesday.
Conti is a fifth-grade teacher at Hoxsie Elementary School and an assistant softball coach at Pilgrim High School, both in Warwick.
State police say they began investigating after the internet connection at Conti’s home was used to access child pornography. Police seized a computer, tablet and phone from his home Tuesday.
Warwick Schools Superintendent Philip Thornton says Conti has been suspended pending an investigation.
Conti was released on $2,500 bond and ordered to have no contact with minors. No defense attorney was listed online court records.
