Pam Tillis To Debut on Broadway
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Country singer Pam Tillis will sing rock ‘n’ roll on Broadway.
Tillis will join the cast of the long-running ``Smokey Joe’s Cafe″ from March 16 to April 4 at New York City’s Virginia Theatre, she announced Thursday. It will be her Broadway debut.
The show features songs written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, such as ``Jailhouse Rock″ and ``Spanish Harlem.″
Tillis called the tunes a cornerstone of American music and Broadway ``the ultimate for any performer.″
``I am amazed to be going to Broadway,″ Tillis said. ``The songs of Leiber and Stoller are some of the best music ever written.″
Tillis’ hits include ``Maybe It Was Memphis.″ She is the daughter of country singer Mel Tillis.
