Helen L. Crane, 92, of Herscher, and formerly of Kankakee, passed away Monday (Nov. 19, 2018) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
She was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Buckley, the daughter of Harry and Claire Martin Poppe. Helen married Fred M. Crane on Oct. 1, 1944. He preceded her in death in September 1996.
Helen and her husband, Fred, farmed in the Clifton area for more than 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making anything “crafty.” Helen also enjoyed playing Bridge and playing cards. She especially loved to square dance with her husband. She was a member of Herscher Christian Church.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Vicki Crane, of Herscher; one daughter, Dolores Lovell, of Bourbonnais; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ken and Angela Poppe, of Phoenix, and Don and Marilyn Poppe, of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Russell Crane; one infant son, Richard Crane; one daughter, Margaret Tallon; one son-in-law, Duane Lovell; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Irma Poppe.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Herscher Christian Church in Herscher. A time for fellowship will follow the memorial service.
