Lazio Owner, Player Indicted
ROME (AP) _ Lazio owner Sergio Cragnotti was indicted Monday on charges of using false documents to obtain an Italian passport for Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron.
Veron was among eight other people also indicted. Trial was set for October.
Veron’s dual citizenship helped Lazio field an extra non-EU player in some games last season, when the Rome team won the Serie A championship.
Italian prosecutors are investigating similar charges against two dozen foreign players in Serie A team.
