September 11, 2018

Cy-Fair ISD trustees on Monday approved the construction proposal for a new middle school.

The middle school, dubbed New Middle School No. 19, will be built at the Cypress Park High School educational village, 7425 Westgreen Blvd., in Cypress. It will be funded by $58,296,000 from the 2014 bond.

Roy Sprague, chief financial officer for CFISD, said construction is expected to begin Oct. 1.

“The school will be finished in July 2020 and should be open for the 2021 school year,” he said.

The board also authorized issuance of their 2018 series building bonds, approving the sale of bonds on a negotiated basis to expand and improve CFISD services. These bonds are still a part of the previous 2014 bond, Chief Financial Officer Stuart Snow said.

“Series 2018 will be fixed rate bonds totaling $200 million from the 2014 voted bond authorization,” he said. “This bond sale represents phase five of the six year 2014 bond program. After this sale we will have a little over $158,000,000 remaining that’s authorized.”

Other highlights from the monthly meeting include $15.8 million from the 2014 bond being approved for re-purposing and renovating Matzke Middle School as well as Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 authorizing school district police to use Harris County Public Safety Radio System for better communication by radio in the district.
