VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) _ Brandi Barnes had 18 points for Villanova, which played without coach Harry Perretta and stunned No. 11 Rutgers 78-65 Saturday.

Katie Davis added 17 points, and was 10-for-10 from the line as Villanova (13-4, 4-2 Big East) made all but one of 31 free throws.

Perretta was with his wife, who was expecting the couple's second child. Associate head coach Joe Mullaney ran the team

Rutgers (11-5, 4-2) was led by Tasha Pointer, who had 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting. The Scarlet Knights, who had won three straight games, were just 2-for-13 (15 percent) from beyond the 3-point line.

Villanova led 39-32 at the break, then Rutgers scored the first six points of the second half.

But the Wildcats, getting nine points from Riley in the second half, controlled the tempo and opened up a double-figures lead in the final minutes. They hit 14-of-14 from the free throw line in the final 1:44.

Villanova, which also beat Rutgers last season, led at intermission thanks to a 27-7 run to end the first half. Barnes had 12 points, including 6-for-6 from the line and the Wildcats were 12-for-21 (57 percent) from the field in the half.
