Phoenix man dies in quad accident north of Cave Creek

July 9, 2018

CAVE CREEK, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a Phoenix man is dead after a quad accident about 20 miles north of Cave Creek.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say 50-year-old Manuel Ramirez Rivera and a friend drove to the Seven Spring Campground with their quads and then began a ride Saturday afternoon.

Rivera reportedly was driving at a high speed and hit a dip in the road, causing the quad to go airborne and launch off a ledge before coming to rest in brush and rock.

Rivera’s friend was riding behind him by about 10 minutes and called 911.

But Rivera died by the time a helicopter arrived.

Sheriff’s deputies say Rivera suffered a head injury.

His helmet was found near the accident scene, but it’s still unclear if he was wearing it at the time.
