Winchester road work expected to cause traffic delays
Traffic on Highway 99 in Winchester between Pleasant Avenue and the Winchester Bridge will be reduced to one lane during the day while Avista Utilities relocates utilities there. The work will begin Monday and continue Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the middle of October.
Traffic will be controlled by flaggers, and the Douglas County Public Works Department is asking drivers to use caution, expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible.
The utility re-routing is connected with plans to reconstruct the roadway. Renovations will include replacing the road, adding 6-foot bicycle lanes on both sides, and building a sidewalk running along the east side of the road to allow pedestrians better access to most area businesses. Two small bridges over creeks will also be replaced and new drainage built.
