Runaway cow leads police on chase across Interstate 80

December 27, 2018

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A cow that escaped from a truck bound for the slaughterhouse gave authorities a run for their money before being subdued early Thursday.

State troopers and Paterson police responded after the bovine breakout occurred at about 2:40 a.m. and the cow ran across Interstate 80.

One officer tried to get the cow under control using a rope but was unsuccessful. A video showed officers using a tow strap to finally coax the cow back over a guardrail.

The Record reports employees from the Skylands Animal Sanctuary in Wantage, Sussex County, took the animal to be examined by a veterinarian.
