Tolbert twirls one-hitter for Marshall

FAIRFAX, Va. — Marshall University softball pitcher Abigail Tolbert (10-4) tossed a one-hitter Friday and the Thundering Herd posted a 1-0, five-inning victory against Monmouth at the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The victory for Marshall (15-5) was called after five innings because of snow.

Marshall scored in the first inning when Armani Brown doubled, advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on Aly Harrell’s ground out.

Saturday’s schedule has Marshall playing Lafayette at 11 a.m. and host George Mason at 3:45 p.m.


HUNTINGTON — Marshall’s baseball game Friday was snowed out.

Marshall and Eastern Michigan are scheduled to play a 10 a.m. Saturday doubleheader at the Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center.


PINEHURST, N.C. — Marshall is ninth out of 14 teams following Friday’s first round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament on the par-71 Pinehurst No. 8 course.

Davidson College leads the field after posting a 1-overpar 285. Clayton Tribus from Davidson took the individual lead with a 4-under-par 67.

Marshall’s plus-18 team score of 302 included Matt Hoffman’s 74, Cole Moore’s 76, Will Straub’s 76, Cameron Root’s 76 and Ben Roeder’s 78.

Thomas Frazier is playing as an individual and shot 74.
