Insurance fraud fugitive returned to US, faces new charges
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Southern California woman who fled to Israel with her physician husband after they were charged with insurance fraud has been returned to the US.
The US Attorney’s Office says 67-year-old Linda Morrow appeared in a Santa Ana courtroom Monday and pleaded not guilty to new charges including contempt of court for fleeing while free on bond.
Investigators say Linda and David Morrow fraudulently lured people to their cosmetic surgery clinic by promising that procedures would be paid by the patients’ unions. They’re accused of bilking insurance companies out of $50 million for procedures they falsely claimed were medically necessary.
Linda Morrow was ordered back to court later this month in the insurance fraud case.
Seventy-four-year-old David Morrow pleaded guilty to insurance fraud before fleeing. He’s awaiting extradition proceedings in Israel.
