Grizzlies get past Spurs on late free throws

November 22, 2018

With eight seconds left, DeMar DeRozan made his move. He drove left, pulled up for his patented mid-range jumper. And with 1.2 seconds left, he drained it.

Marc Gasol, though, ruined his heroics. The Memphis center got the ball just outside the block and drew the foul. He hit both free throws and lifted the Grizzlies to a 104-103 win over the Spurs on Wednesday at the AT&T Center.

LaMarcus Aldridge had one last look at a shot to win the game, but could not get the foul call.

Rudy Gay, who was the one who fouled Gasol, did come up huge for the Spurs in the fourth quarter, otherwise, coming up with a dunk and a three-point play.

The Spurs trailed by as much as 10 points in the first quarter, but rallied behind DeRozan, who led them with 24 points. He was part of a balanced attack for the Spurs, though. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 19 points, Patty Mills 15 and Gay added 21.

All night, though the Spurs struggled to guard Memphis point guard Mike Conley. Conley finished with 30 points.
