Police: More arrests ‘likely’ in home invasion
GREENWICH — Greenwich police are continuing to investigate a home invasion on Brook Drive, seeking more suspects and working to extradite a man from New York City who has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Extradition proceedings are ongoing against Hassan R. Washington, 46, of Cherry Street, New York City, who is currently in detention in New York. “It could take a few weeks” before Washington is charged in Greenwich, said police Lt. John Slusarz.
Police are offering few details about the weekend robbery, other than to say investigators are pursuing other suspects. “It’s likely we’ll have additional arrests,” the lieutenant said.
Officers were called Saturday afternoon to Brook Drive in central Greenwich, where they discovered a man had been bound and beaten by intruders, police said. The robbers demanded cash and jewelry from the man, according to authorities. The victim had been sought out in advance, not at random, police said.
Washington will be charged with home invasion, robbery, kidnapping, assault and larceny in Greenwich, police said. He was picked up Tuesday by a combined squad of Greenwich police, New York City police and the FBI.
According to a New York court database, Washington is scheduled for a court appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court on Aug. 22, in connection with the pending charges. He is being represented by a Legal Aid lawyer.
