Man charged in fatal Gallia County car crash
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — A man involved in a fatal Gallia County crash earlier this week has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Matthew S. Preston, 57, of Crown City, Ohio, remains incarcerated in the Gallia County Jail awaiting arraignment, according to the release.
After conferring with Gallia County Prosecutor Jason Holdern, charges of aggravated vehicular homicide were filed Thursday following a fatal crash Wednesday that killed a 66-year-old Gallipolis, Ohio, man.
The victim was identified as Robert Baxter Jr., who was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene along Ohio 588 in Gallia County, according to an earlier release.
The Gallipolis Post of the Highway Patrol received a call about the crash at 12:37 p.m. Wednesday on Ohio 588 north of milepost 6, according to the release.
Preston was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Blazer at the time of the crash. The vehicle went left of center, striking the motorcycle head-on. Impairment was suspected by Preston, according to the release.
Preston and a passenger, Lori Huffman, 38, of Gallipolis, both were treated at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
