Lujan Grisham traveling to Washington, D.C., for meetings
SANTA FE -- Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is traveling to the nation’s capital tonight to join other governors from around the country.
Lujan Grisham, a Democrat who took office last month, will attend the National Governors Association’s winter meeting, according to the Governor’s Office.
While in Washington, D.C., the governor will also take part in events with other?Democratic chief executives and is also planning to attend a luncheon at Vice President Mike Pence’s residence, along with others governors.
She is also scheduled to appear on at least one syndicated??TV news show -- Face the Nation -- to discuss the situation on the U.S.-Mexico border and President Donald Trump’s recent emergency declaration to build new portions of a border wall, Lujan Grisham spokesman Tripp Stelnicki said.
The governor’s travel to Washington, D.C., will come from the Governor’s Office budget, he added.
Per the state Constitution, Lt. Gov. Howie Morales serves as acting governor while Lujan Grisham is traveling outside New Mexico.
